Mentoring Experience:
I have been fortunate to mentor >20 undergraduates and graduate students. Several undergraduates have worked with me on fieldwork, experiments, and data analysis directly supporting my dissertation work, while four undergraduates worked with me on independent projects. Both undergraduates working on independent projects currently have manuscripts published or in prep. As a senior PhD student and postdoc, I served as a mentor to graduate students at Notre Dame and The University of Alabama, assisting them with project design, field methods, and in-lab & data analyses.

Mentoring Philosophy:
- Fostering a collaborative environment is critical - working to build a peer-to-peer relationship between myself and my mentees creates trust and develops their confidence as a scientist
- Providing experiential opportunities - immersing students in field and lab work as early as possible sustains their motivation and gets them excited about the science
- Encouraging independence - challenging students to first "dig deep" to work through a solution to any issues on their own, then advise and guide them through the resolution
- Individualized mentoring - my goal is to understand how each student learns best and adapt to their specific mentoring needs
